In EYFS we aim to foster happy and independent children who thrive in an environment which is fun, caring and full of new and exciting challenges and experiences. The children are given opportunities for both indoor and outdoor learning on a daily basis, with activities being selected to stimulate their senses and learning styles.
Reception is a unique and exciting time as our children embark on the transition to school and begin a lifelong learning journey. Through developing a secure relationship with our early years staff and each other, our children become confident and independent learners who feel happy and safe at school, and develop a real love for learning.
A variety of practical, hands-on and playful learning experiences are aimed at sparking our children’s curious minds and promote critical thinking and open-ended exploration of concepts and themes. Using high-quality children’s literature as our starting point, our children are introduced to the magical world of reading and writing through daily phonics sessions. We encourage our children to explore mathematical concepts through practical activities, role-play and discussion of our everyday lives and the environment around us.
We strive to achieve an environment where children can play, feel relaxed and be comfortable. When children feel emotionally safe and secure, they develop the confidence to explore and find out about the place they are in and the things they can see and touch.
In collaboration with our early years team, the children are equipped with the necessary skills to progress towards the more structured academic challenges of Year 1 and beyond.
Thank you to Tivisha's Mum and Sreyan's Mum for coming in to share with us how they celebrate Diwali in their families. We learned all about the decorations, the diya lamps, rangoli patterns, food and clothing. We are very lucky to have such wonderful families who can come and share this with us. The children have decorated their own diya lamps, made rangoli patterns with chalk, powder paint and natural resources outside, coloured in pictures and tried some traditional Indian snacks.
This week EYFS had a break in! They arrived at school to find some red tape sectioning off the home corner, porridge oats spilled on the floor, chairs and tables tipped upside down, 3 bowls discarded across the room and a clue of some golden hair strands! They quickly decided that it was Goldilocks and became detectives to help catch her. They created wanted posters, set traps and drew maps of how to catch the girl.
In EYFS we have read the Colour Monster story and talked about the emotions that each colour represents. We mixed colours in the water tray, wrote letters to cheer up the sad colour monster and made our own colour monsters out of play dough and wrote them some super spells to change them into imaginary things! We have had so much fun exploring our feelings. We have also loved having our huge sandpit back open this week and have done a lot of great digging and building. Reception also started their phase 2 phonics this week and we have been learning our first 5 sounds. We have had a very busy week!
