In Year 1, our children make the exciting transition from Early Years to Key Stage One in a gradual progression towards a more formal and structured day and style of learning.  It is an opportunity to experience a breadth of education that encompasses a creative curriculum.

We encourage our children to become increasingly independent and they enjoy learning through focused tasks and structured play.  Our topics are chosen to encourage them to explore and develop their understanding of the world, grow in confidence and self-belief through creativity, while acquiring the early building blocks of learning for life.

Our children begin to develop collaborative discussion skills by engaging with high quality texts and they are provided with a variety of opportunities to practise and apply their reading and writing skills.  These well-established skills are displayed when completing the phonics screening check at the end of the year.

Year 2 is a stimulating year with lots of positive challenges for the children.

In Year 2 our children start to become more independent learners; continuing to develop their skills in reading, writing and maths through collaboration, discussion and structured activities.  As Year 2 progresses, our children work towards preparing themselves to showcase their very best in the end-of-year statutory assessments (SATs).  We use a topic-based approach to learning which, allows all to become immersed in learning.

In maths we follow the White Rose scheme.   This has been carefully planned to develop and deepen maths fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

In Years 3, the children are supported appropriately to enable them to grow in maturity and are encouraged to take on the role of kind, integral members of our school community.   Children are given the opportunity to show more responsibility for their learning and organisation and are provided with a range of opportunities to challenge themselves.

We have been very busy in Year 1, we have been ordering numbers-smallest to greatest and then greatest to the smallest.  We have been using adjectives in English to describe the animals in our book.  We have started creating some pop art in the style of Andy Warhol-we are going to add colour to them next week.  Please enjoy our creative art we made in Computing.
This week in Year 2 we've been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Why don't you have a go at the weekend?

This week in Year 3 we have been learning about the affects of weathering. We conducted an experiment to see how acid rain damages rocks, causing weathering. We then searched the playground for a durable rock to withstand weathering and designed a school plaque based off this rock.

This week in PE, Year 2 we thinking about jumping and landing in safe ways. We worked in our houses to create our own versions of hop scotch, we then looked at other peoples and adapted our own. In History this week, we have been learning about the history of Sindlesham, we had pictures of past and present locations of our local area and created a timeline using clues to help try and get the right order.
What a busy and exciting week in Year 1! The children have been creating wonderful self-portraits inspired by Picasso, experimenting with warm and cool colours to bring their artwork to life. We also had a very special adventure, we launched one of our fox teddings into space! In Geography, the children put their map making skills to the test by creating their own maps of our playground. A fantastic week of creativity, curiosity and discovery!

Year 1 Fox class have been busy this week, we have made an ariel map of our classroom for Geography, we started our science topic of seasons and we have started to learn how to play tennis in PE!  Today we practiced sending and receiving a ball to each other.

Yesterday, Year 2 enjoyed our first outdoor PE lesson, followed by a story under the new shelter on the KS1 playground!

This week Year 3 have been busy showing off their creativity and writing skills! In art, the children enjoyed making squirrels with beautifully bushy tissue paper tails, many of their fantastic creations have already gone home to be proudly displayed. In English, we have been working hard on writing recounts of our summer holidays. The children have been focusing on using ambitious adjectives to make their writing exciting, detailed and engaging for the reader. We are so proud of the effort and imagination they have put into their work this week!
