Bearwood Primary School in Sindlesham, Wokingham was honoured to receive a Royal visitor on Monday 14 March. HRH The Countess of Wessex visited our school to conduct the official opening of the school’s new Foundation Stage Outdoor Environment. Due to the importance of the occasion, the school also welcomed dignitaries such as The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire and The Mayor of Wokingham and his consort, as well as Local Authority representatives and school governors.
During the visit, HRH had the opportunity to meet with pupils throughout the school, visiting one class in each Key Stage. The children were delighted that the Countess participated in some of their lessons during the afternoon. The Countess then toured the new outdoor area in Foundation Stage before officially unveiling a plaque in front of the whole school. As part of this special event, pupils from Foundation Stage performed a song that they had sung for Mother’s Day and the School Choir performed a song from their recent performance at the O2. HRH was also presented with a posy by the oldest girl pupil, Madison Amor, 11, and the youngest boy pupil, Oscar Jones, 4. A local delicacy, Barkham Blue cheese was also presented to HRH, and this was donated by Mr Dole, a parent of the school and owner of Barkham Corner Store and Post Office.
Mrs Barlow thanked all the children and staff for making the visit such a memorable day. ‘This is the first Royal visit that Bearwood has ever had, and this is a little part of history that we will all remember. It has been a truly special day and a once in lifetime experience for everybody involved.’
