OK, right.
Kayleigh Haden 0 minutes 9 seconds
We are now recording.
Kayleigh Haden 0 minutes 13 seconds
So and this evening's presentation is just to share with you what to expect at BEARWOOD primary schools key stage one and some of your children will be moving into year one or have moved into year one and others will have moved into year two.
Kayleigh Haden 0 minutes 27 seconds
So this session is about the whole of key stage one, so some aspects are for year one and some aspects are for year two.
Kayleigh Haden 0 minutes 35 seconds
And if your child is in year one, it's always good for you to hear what's going to come along when the children move into year 2.
Kayleigh Haden 0 minutes 43 seconds
It's our vision statement I've just shared that on the screen to start with and it just really shares with you what we really aspire to achieve at bear with primary school.
Kayleigh Haden 0 minutes 52 seconds
Our main goal is to be outstanding and to ensure that we provide outstanding and outstanding education for your children and that's why we're always reflecting on what we do reflecting on our curriculum, reflecting on what opportunities and enrichment activities we give our children.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 8 seconds
And so yeah, that's our main aim.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 11 seconds
We are also a values based school and so each time the children will focus or the school as a whole will focus on a value.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 19 seconds
So for example, our value this term is service and we're thinking about how us as teachers and teaching assistants and what have you deliver a service within our school, but also how the children within the school deliver their service.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 33 seconds
So thinking about how they could be good, receiving the education that they are being given and that sort of thing.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 42 seconds
There are key stage one team and I'm Mrs Haden.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 45 seconds
Kayleigh Haden.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 46 seconds
I'm the key stage one lead and we also have Miss Livanos.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 50 seconds
Who's our year one teacher?
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 52 seconds
Our rabbit class teacher, we have Mrs Shaw.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 55 seconds
Who's our year 1/2 teacher?
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 57 seconds
And she's in Otter class.
Kayleigh Haden 1 minute 59 seconds
And we have Miss Davis, who's in year two.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 2 seconds
Who is our Beaver class teacher?
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 5 seconds
And then we also have our LSA's. Mrs stone.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 7 seconds
Mrs Brooker and Mrs Evans, Mrs Stone is based in Otter class.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 12 seconds
Mrs Brooker, I is based in Beaver class and Mrs Evans is based in rabbit class, but we do tend to share the LSA's and for various things that may occur, such as interventions and what have you, that take place for the children just a bit of background information about the teachers and so Miss Livanos is our year one teacher.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 32 seconds
She has also worked in early years as many of you may know.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 36 seconds
So she's got a great understanding of where the children are coming from into year one.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 42 seconds
Missus Shaw is our year 1/2 teacher.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 44 seconds
She has been at bearwood for a very long time.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 46 seconds
She's one of our most long standing teachers here and she has worked for all the way from early years through to year six.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 54 seconds
So she's got a range of understanding of the curriculum and also experiences with the children.
Kayleigh Haden 2 minutes 59 seconds
So she also knows whether children are coming from in to year one, but also the same for the children who have come into year two and our year two teacher, Miss Davis.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 9 seconds
She was in year one for the past year, two years and she's now in year. Yeah.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 13 seconds
So again, she has a good understanding of where the children have come from as they enter year two and she will work closely within the team, particularly with Mrs Shaw and for the curriculum in year two.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 25 seconds
Tonight's all teaching staff and our LSA's in key stage one.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 28 seconds
One you'll always see me out on the playground in the morning, and you'll often see the teachers out on the playground in the afternoon at the end of the day.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 37 seconds
So if you did need to speak to your child's class teacher, you can always approach them at the end of the day.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 42 seconds
Or if you felt like you needed to have a bit more of a lengthy conversation with them, and you can do so by arranging appointment.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 51 seconds
So we're going to start with transition.
Kayleigh Haden 3 minutes 53 seconds
So this is really for the children who invented year one this year and it's a huge transition for the children, leaving early years coming into year one.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 3 seconds
And that's why I think it's quite important just to focus at the start for what the children are going to be experienced experiencing in this transition phase.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 11 seconds
So most of you will understand the importance of preparing your children for starting school and backing when they were in nursery and they were going into into reception.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 19 seconds
Sorry, but the move from reception to year one can be a big change too.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 23 seconds
Is quite a jump.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 25 seconds
The children used learned the early years curriculum in reception, so it's the end of the early years curriculum.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 32 seconds
And then as they go into year one, they start the national curriculum.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 35 seconds
That is the biggest change because the education is a lot more formal, so to speak.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 41 seconds
Some children do move in and they're absolutely fine, and they don't think twice.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 45 seconds
They're just happy to be in year one, but for others it can be a bit more of a struggle.
Kayleigh Haden 4 minutes 49 seconds
And they need a bit more support in that transition and that change and we do put support in place for our children with this transition and we prepare the children for their next stage in their learning.
Kayleigh Haden 5 minutes
So we've done that in early years in reception, but we're also continuing to do that in year one as they've just started with us.
Kayleigh Haden 5 minutes 10 seconds
And why is it a big change?
Kayleigh Haden 5 minutes 11 seconds
As I said, it's the curriculum is different in year one, they started key stage one part of the National curriculum and a lot of the learning and reception is play based as you will know.
Kayleigh Haden 5 minutes 21 seconds
So the children have a lot of freedom to choose their own activities to move on their learning in their own way, that they choose to wherever, whereas sorry.
Kayleigh Haden 5 minutes 30 seconds
In year one, the learning becomes that bit more formal and it's subject based and adult directed.
Kayleigh Haden 5 minutes 36 seconds
And as mentioned already, the expectations in year one do increase and the children need to be able to follow instructions, focus for longer periods and become that bit more independent.
